ZFM began its life on 94.5 FM in sleepy old Newcastle, NSW
as the dream of Keith Ashton (who is sadly no longer with us).
ZFM was the first station of its type in Newcastle and provided
dance music 24/7. In 2001 Keith and Sean Ison migrated ZFM to
the internet and IADR Digital Radio, becoming the first digital
Dance Radio station in Australia. ZFM was the first web-based
radio station down under to ever reach an averaged audience
of 80,000 listeners per week.
Often imitated (but never very well!) and always leading the way,
Reaching out into the world..the Z also became Sydney’s first
24/7 Dance Music Digital Radio service on the 13th June 2009.
Dance Music has always been at the forefront of innovation and
with a solid background in the now rapidly dying FM radio market,
its only natural that ZFM should embrace new technology
and give our listeners the best possible radio experience. Andy
Brown joined the station in 2008 and through the hard work of him
and Sean and the Z lives on in Newcastle. We’re leaving the old
technology on the scrap heap! Tune into the future with ZFM.
